In recent times, various chatbots, including ChatGPT, have become a part of our lives. Among them, Baidu’s Ernie, released in 2023, stands out. With the complete ban of ChatGPT in China, Ernie is expected to dominate the Chinese market.
Chatbot Ernie pushes the capabilities of artificial intelligence
The initial leaks about Ernie, powered by Baidu’s widely used search engine and language algorithms, emerged in 2019. Since then, the chatbot, carefully developed with artificial intelligence support, provides accurate answers to all questions asked.
It is claimed that the 4.0 version of Ernie released in the last quarter of 2023 is capable of competing with OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT. Senior executives at Baidu believe that the robot will also receive significant attention in countries outside of China.
Ernie, like other AI-powered chatbots, answers the most challenging questions through various texts, visuals, and videos. Although the robot is primarily designed in Chinese, there is also an English version. However, it is claimed that Ernie gives biased answers to certain questions in line with the interventions of the Chinese government.
Additionally, Ernie shapes all its responses personally. The chatbot records the user’s most important information and speaking style in the database, designing all responses based on this information with the support of artificial intelligence.
While the 3.5 version of the chatbot, with over 100 million individual users in China, is offered for free, you need to pay about $8 per month to use the latest 4.0 version.
